Cubecart may not be THE bottom of the barrel but I think it comes pretty close. There are an unbelievable number of glaring bugs to the software on top of plain annoying default features that I am surprised this isn't a free opensource program. The ease of use is comparable to OScommerce (which I've used) and probably Zencart (which I've heard about), both which are free. In other words, it's not easy to set up yourself without the help of a professional. The price is about as low as you'll be able to find for a software that costs money, but again, OSC and ZC are free. Either way, if you don't have mad skills, you're going to have to dole out more mullah to hire somebody to set your site up for you using any of these programs. One major bug is at the Checkout level. When the buyer goes to the 3rd page of Checkout, after they have selected their method of payment, it takes them to a summary of their shopping cart. Click on any single link on the page or on the browser's back button and the shopping cart empties. Over and over, it happens every time. The only link that can be clicked on that won't empty the cart once you get to that page is Continue Shopping. This is such a huge flaw in the program, I would be embarrassed if I were the creator. Another annoying feature is the Order Acknowlegement emails. When the buyer is at the Shipping Cart page and clicks on the button to Checkout, an Order Acknowledgement email is sent to them every time. Keep in mind, they haven't paid yet, so it can be extremely confusing for them to get an email with the subject Order Acknowledgement. Imagine them getting the email and thinking payment went through already when it hadn't. And then if they decide to continue shopping instead of paying at that point, they'll get ANOTHER Order Acknowlegement email when they start the Checkout process again. How annoying is that? The email serves absolutely no purpose that I can think of since the buyer already gets an email when payment has already been made. It's just confusing to everybody. And there's no way to disable it. WTF?? The best I could do was to change the text in the email by going to Language/en/EmailText to try to make it as unconfusing as possible when the buyer gets the email. These are the major flaws with the CC that I've found so far. There are a lot of other annoyances and things that make you wonder, WHAT were they thinking?, or alternatively, why DIDN'T they think of that?? Thankfully my store is very very small and simple and I can get away with a site that is less than completely perfect. There are mods that you can buy to add some useful features, but they add up and will end up costing you more than the CC software itself. In fact, rather than ask yourself, "What does Cubecart offer?", I think it would be more useful if you looked at all the CC mods out there to understand just what they DON'T offer. I put it up to learning experience, but if I could do again, I'd probably choose Zencart instead.
